Well, we're sure that you've noticed by now that we spell "Yuugi" with two "U"s instead of one. So, where did that come from?
Like all things Yu-Gi-Oh! related, it was Umeko's fault. Here's the story.
In early April of 2002, Umeko was trying to improve her (nonexistent) abilities of drawing grown men, and noticed that Yami Yuugi would be a good resource to draw from- if she could find a picture of him with his jacket off. (Her interests in anime at that time had little to no grown men because they centered around young children, such as Digimon and Ojamajo Doremi. Her brothers were watching Yu-Gi-Oh! a lot at that time, while she, Mab, and Luigi all thought that it was pretty stupid.) So, she started to search the internet for a picture of him with his shirt off. (She, at this time, ran across Dennou Sentai Kukuranger, which remains her abolute favorite YGO fanart site to this day. It was also at this time, at this site, that she discovered Otogi, but couldn't decide if he was a boy or a girl. That picture, by the way, was the top picture when she discovered the site.)
Eventually, she went to Anime Intro Archive to see what she could find there.
Yes, this has everything to do with the extra "U". I have not gotten off-topic.
So, that is where she discovered the Ghetto series. Not that you NEED to know that. At AIA, however, she downloaded the openings and endings, one of which changed her life forever.
Yes. We're talking about Kawaita Sakebi. The ultimate, magical song that can make ANYONE like Yu-Gi-Oh!
At least, that's what made the three of us fans of the show. I mean... what would YOU think if a certain opening song made three different people interested in a certain show? Either it's true that Kawaita Sakebi has magical powers, or the three of us are just strangeoids that are affected in the same way by things.
Cripes, now I HAVE to listen to Kawaita Sakebi. *turns it on*
Anyway, where was I? Oh, that's right. Umeko instantly became a fan of Yu-Gi-Oh!, sent an email to Luigi right away to cancel out the rant about the show she had sent a few hours before, and called Mab, who came over the next day, watched the opening, and also instantly became a fan. (It was several months later, when Umeko mailed Luigi a video and CD with a bunch of YGO stuff on it, that she watched the opening and instantly became a fan.)
Yes, I am still talking about that darned extra "U".
So, with her obsession came a mad search for a bunch of stuff. And then...
You know what? I've just wasted several minutes of your time. Basically, it's just that when the kanji for "Yuugi" are transliterated directly, there's a long "u" sound, meaning that there realyl are two "U"s there. Umeko was really big on transliterating things EXACTLY how they're written back then (for a couple hours she called Yu-Gi-Oh "Yuugiou," then found that she was getting almost no results from that). Despite that fact that we know that it's supposed to be spelt "Yugi", because even Takahashi-sama spells it like that, we don't stop spelling it with two "U"s. We can't get out of the habit of pressing that "U" key two times in a row. Think about it, could YOU easily get out of the habit of, say, spelling "spelling" with two "L"s? We don't think so!! So, we keep on speling it Yuugi.
Not that you've heard our argument, you don't have to flame us about our speling (not that we ever DID get any flames about it, nor did we think we would). So respect our speling!! ROAR!!!
Did Umeko ever find a picture of Yami Yuugi with his jacket off? Sure! But back when she needed it? Can't remember. For all she knows, her ability to draw grown men (B-CHAN!! Actually, he's 16, but... that doesn't matter. He's still completely grown) simply popped out of nowhere. Ah, well. It's all good.
